Rigid gas permeable lenses
Rigid gas permeable contact lenses, also known as hard lenses, retain their shape on the eye. We match the curvature and prescription to your eyes and assess the fit with trial lenses.
They are made from oxygen-permeable material. A conventional rigid lens for daytime wear is smaller than the coloured part of your eye and rests on the tear film in front of the cornea.
A small lens, precisely fitted.
The lens retains its shape. After a blink, you can see it move slightly and then settle again.
Illustrative representation. The lens edge and movement are exaggerated for clarity; the fit varies between eyes.
Your eye shape matters
As well as your prescription, the curvature of your cornea, tear film and lens movement are important. That is why we assess the fit on your eye.
How Lucid examines your eyesVision and comfort
What can you expect?
What vision can you expect?
Rigid lenses can provide sharp, clear vision. Whether they are a good choice for you depends on your eye shape, prescription and daily activities. We assess this using measurements and trial lenses.
Adjusting to hard lenses.
At first, you will usually be more aware of these lenses than soft lenses. Getting used to them can take several weeks. You gradually build up wearing time according to personal advice; we discuss your progress during check-ups.
How do you care for rigid lenses?
Wash and dry your hands before touching your lenses. Clean and disinfect them with the recommended solution and always use fresh storage solution. Keep lenses away from tap water and remove them before showering, swimming and sleeping. Follow the agreed wearing time, replacement schedule and check-ups.
If you experience pain, redness or sudden loss of vision, remove your lenses and seek assessment immediately.
The Lucid approach

We discuss your preferences, measure your prescription and map the shape of your cornea. With trial lenses, we assess your vision and the lens position and movement on your eye. You receive instructions on insertion, removal and care. At follow-up check-ups, we assess whether the fit or prescription needs adjusting.
