Eye pressure and glaucoma
At Lucid Optiek in Almere, we measure eye pressure at every initial eye examination. This measurement is part of assessing your eyes for contact lenses.
We discuss the results and advise you when further examination is needed.

What is glaucoma?
In glaucoma, the optic nerve is gradually damaged. This can lead to areas of visual field loss, often without you noticing at first. Raised eye pressure is an important risk factor.
High eye pressure does not automatically mean glaucoma. Glaucoma can also occur with normal eye pressure. Assessment therefore involves more than a pressure measurement, including examination of the optic nerve and visual field.
Early detection and treatment can help limit further damage. Existing damage cannot be reversed.
Eye pressure measurement at Lucid Optiek.
Your first eye examination
As well as assessing your prescription, tear film and contact lens options, we measure your eye pressure. Please also tell us if glaucoma runs in your family.
Your follow-up check-up
If needed, we repeat the eye pressure measurement. We discuss the results and whether further examination is necessary.
Further examination
If the result is high or unusual, we recommend examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist, through your GP if needed. An eye pressure measurement at Lucid cannot diagnose or rule out glaucoma.
